In this seaside city when it rains, the problems with flooding pour in. That’s what we found yesterday when we visited a city preschool. Jacqueline Godwin reports.
Jacqueline Godwin Reporting,
This was the scene on Trinity Street yesterday morning preschool principal Caroline West walking through flooded waters carrying in her arms one of her students three year old Michelle Martinez.

“What we need is a proper drainage because you know the water cannot flow so then they send in the tractor to grade the street but all what they do is grade it, fill it and then when it rains it becomes very mucky and then nothing is there for it run off so then you are left in a pool of situation like how you are seeing it right now.”
The pools of water forced six children to remain absent from their morning class and this afternoon’s class was cancelled. Principal West says she has been waiting for assistance for two years.
Carolyn West,
“A parent right now is sick because she has to come and bring her child to school and has to go into the water and the water is very cold. It is a lot of water and then they need to go back and forth in the water so for me, I come to school in boots so that I can pass through the water and so then I watch and wait to see the children coming then I go and then cross them over so that they can come into school.”
While the waters subsided today, the school says it needs help before the next big rain.
