Prime Minister Dean Barrow officially inaugurated the Belmopan Cotton Tree Water Expansion Project today. The project aims at providing a reliable supply of safe and potable water to over two thousand residents in three main villages along the Western Highway. Ceremonies were held this morning in Cotton Tree Village.

Hon. Ramon Witz, Cayo South Representative
"Cotton Tree has a water system but it has been non-functional. Cotton Tree, St. Mathew, Franks Eddy has been without water for over 8 years. Not a single drop of water, for a few families in Cotton Tree - it was unacceptable, majority of the people were punishing and suffering and I as the area representative make a commitment to improve the water system. It was painful to see how in the past people would have to walk long distances to try and fetch one and two buckets of water-

from the youngest child to the oldest person in the village."

The Belmopan - Cotton Tree Water Expansion Project represents the first phase of a project that aims to improve the quality of water supply to over 386 households in the villages of Cotton Tree, St Mathews and Franks Eddy along the Western Highway. The ongoing project will connect all three communities through a 64 thousand, one hundred foot transmission line from the central water system in Belmopan.
