COP26 is over!

Well, technically it should have ended at midnight in the UK. But that's when the UN stops the clock meaning that whatever decisions occur during the weekend will in fact be backdated to before the clock struck 12:00 tonight.

But now reports are that negotiations in the 26th conference of the Parties will bleed into tomorrow amid disagreements over wording on fossil fuels.

And yesterday as Belize's Minister of Sustainable development signed off on his work as a COP negotiator we spoke to him about what had been achieved and what hadn't.

Hon. Orlando Habet, Minister of Sustainable development

"I think for Belize a few Bilaterals have been held mostly in getting continued support for some of the work that we have been doing on climate change. One example is a meeting with the Climate Change partnership, where they have assisted us with the formulating and getting us ready for the NDC's we've had a local consultant with us there for some time assisting to getting everything together and now they promised that they would also assist in the implementation phase which is also what we want and as many of the small countries we have submitted our NDC's but most of the NDC's that are submitted both in the area of mitigation and principally for adaptation are conditional because they're conditional on financing so while we await that type of financing I think one first step at least with the partnership is that they continue to support us. We also emphasize that part of the support that we would like from them also is in regards to looking at the area's while we look at the NDC's that we look at the areas of sustainable development looking at the livelihoods of the people involving communities, the indigenous people, looking at how we can get equality in terms of getting women and young people involved and so they are all in that, they are supporting that."
