A new medical waste autoclave system has been installed at the Mile 3 Transfer Station in Belize City - and it's job is to burn medical waste.
It was acquired to reduce the release of Organic pollutants into the natural environment.
With this, it is now illegal and a fineable offense to burn medical waste improperly. Instead generators of medical waste are required to keep, quote: "Adequate records of the dates, types, and amounts of medical waste generated, and the date and locations where such waste are shipped for disposal." End quote.
A press release from the DOE tonight says that they are implementing a medical waste collection and transport program that will assist hospitals and clinics in facilitating the proper handling, treatment, and disposal of medical waste.
