But this isn't the first time the Leader of the Opposition's name has been called in an alleged domestic dispute, nor is it the second time. This is a pattern of behavior and whether or not the allegations are true, it's unbecoming of someone who aspires to be the country's maximum leader. But despite all those allegations, Faber still managed to rise to the position of party leader - and survive a recall. We asked the UDP chairman if this could have been avoided had those other allegations been taken as seriously as this one.

Michael Peyrefitte, Chairman, U.D.P.

"If I were 6 feet tall and slim and weighed 200 pounds I would be in the NBA making a hundred million dollars. I don't know, we made a decision at the time that we thought that given the fact that we are all human. I had personally come out and say, I personally said the last time with the video that people were making it out worst to be what it appeared on the camera to be. I think at the time he kicked or punch a door or anything like that. I wasn't prepared to call him to resign on that. You could say well he was letting out his frustrations in an object. That is fine. But even that we had explained to him at that time..."

"His own child was present when that level of aggression was by Faber."

Michael Peyrefitte, Chairman, U.D.P.
"Yes, at the time he was aggressive. We all know about that incident, we all said to him, we had a discussion and we all said that if this you are saying nothing happened, I think in fairness to him, he even said that in deed he was extremely concern for his child and those present. All of that he said. We've move on from it. He said he was getting help, we also explained to him that this could not happen again. Even that incident from we are moving on from, something like that couldn't happen again. So when it happened this time for me, there was no need for any hesitation or any discussion."

Jules Vasquez
"This man unfitness of public life has been demonstrated time and time again, but the UDP like the PUP is an old boys party and boys will be boys apparently and a certain level of deviation from optimal behaviour is tolerated, because its man's world in politics of Belize. How do you respond to what?"

Michael Peyrefitte, Chairman, U.D.P.
"I say no. I'm in politics in Belize and that's not my world."

Jules Vasquez
"I'm saying men are more tolerant of these deviations from acceptable behavior when it is done by other men."

Michael Peyrefitte, Chairman, U.D.P.
"Not this one."

The UDP Central Executive will be meeting tonight to discuss the way forward.
