And to go back to a story I told you about earlier, from one weather extreme to the next - Southside Belize City is better equipped than ever to accommodate the effect of record breaking floods - like the kind that washed through Belize City - also in October - but that was in 2015.
Today the Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Housing, along with IDB marked the completion of a project that brought sweeping transformation to Belize city's drainage. The southside's drainage has always depended on the canal system: that's east canal, collet canal and west canal also known as south creek. Those carry off water from the city's drains but also act as a channel between the Haulover Creek and the Caribbean Sea. And when the creek starts to empty out into the canal - the city's flooded streets can't run off.
