The Prime Minister is currently on a southern tour, having completed his rounds in Toledo today. This morning, he visited Barranco and Indian Creek, with a slight detour to the Sarstoon forward operating base in between. It's been a while since he's seen it - he was in opposition at the time. And today, he told us more about the discussions he had with the BDF.
John Briceno, Prime Minister
"I was in Barranco. I went to visit the village of Barranco, the school to speak to to the village council, to the Garifuna to to the village leaders and to the NDC to hear what what are their concerns? What their challenges? How is it that they're doing as a government? And we had a very good meeting, and I think it is only when I was about to leave the the Coast Guard, they were taking me on to the Coast Guard."
"Was it? yeah. Yeah. The Coast Guard was going to bring me back to to Punta Gorda. And once we were on the boat, they were saying, listen the forward operating zone is...base is approximately five, 10 minutes. And I said, sure, let let me go take a look, because we know we're talking about putting a new building."
"I wanted to take our first hand look at what's going on. I was there when you were in opposition. And so we went there and talked to spoke with the members of the BDF and see how best we could put a building there very soon. But most importantly, and I have to discuss this with the minister of defense minister Marin. Is that they were making the point we do not have electricity."
"If you could put up a small solar plant, that that that would go a long way for them. So basically that's what I went to be to there to take out first hand look and see what you can do very quickly to improve the lives of our soldiers."
