This evening, western Belize was under an unhealthy level of smoke pollution. And it is smothering the twin towns of San Ignacio/Santa Elena. The air quality index is giving a reading of 205 which is considered "very unhealthy."
In other areas like Benque and Belmopan, the reading is under 200 - which is considered "unhealthy."
At these ratings, it is not uncommon for residents to feel ill, display allergic symptoms or have discomfort in the chest area, especially asthmatics who will have difficulty breathing.
