And another thing the Minister is looking at are the observation posts - particularly the one in Rio Blanco- which its one of the most remote. It's a difficult location to access and the structure needs urgent repairs. But he explained that the ministry is considering whether the post should be moved completely.
Oscar Mira, Minister of National Security and Border Defense
"Many people have not been to Rio Blanco because it's very inaccessible. So those conservation posts are not the property of the Belize defense force. They are property of the NGO that the BDF works with, which is, friends for conservation and development. And yes, indeed, they have been there for so many, many years and they need to be refurbished. One of the things that I did when I took command of the ministry was to do a reconnaissance of all of those conservation processes of directed the general to come up with a strategy because it's not only about the building itself, but it is about location and that the served the purpose that they have been put there. So all of that is happening right now, and I'm going to get recommendations as to if we need to change it from where it is, for example, Rio Blanco, if we need to change Rio Blanco from the present position. So somewhere else so that it really serves the purpose for the patrol, then that is what we're going to do. So I'm waiting for them to give me that report."
