The UDP National Party Council is scheduled for tomorrow - but tonight, Leader of the Opposition, Tracy Panton says she is not with it.
A letter sent this evening to the party chairman Mike Peyrefitte is headed, "Concerns Regarding the Proposed National Party Council".
She says, quote, "the NPC does not reflect the spirit of unity and collaboration nor does it signal, in my view, a serious or sincere effort to move the United Democratic Party forward in a manner that is fair, transparent, and constitutionally sound."
She details what she feels are the precise filling of the NPC as it is set out, noting, for example, quote, "Mr. Jose Espat is reportedly included as an NPC delegate, while I, as an elected UDP Member of Parliament, has been sidelined. I find this offensive, and wholly inconsistent with the Constitution and the principles of natural justice." End quote.
She called for Caretaker Conventions in all 26 constituencies where there is no elected UDP representative.
She concludes, "The upcoming NPC, in its current form, is unconstitutional."
So now we wait and see what will happen tomorrow. Those NPC members loyal to Panton may choose to boycott the meeting - and the party could find itself again struggling to get the quorum for a meeting. 7News will be out there and we will let you know what's happening.
