Doctor Alfredo Missair Deputy Regional Director of the United Nations Children Fund arrived in Belize yesterday.

As part of his official working visit, Missair visited with the Prime Minister Hon. Said Musa, Leader of the Opposition Hon. Dean Barrow as well as other dignitaries in the field of child protection.

As part of his visit Missair Also took time to visit with the media in Belize and this morning he told us that as part of the region Belize is doing fairly well at ensuring child protection but the work cannot stop.

"You're doing well and one of the highlights was seeing the national plan of action which is under construction and will be completed t month. That's the first commitment that needed to answered after the UN special session on children held in May 2002."

"Indicators are okay but some disparities are still there. For example the level of poverty, the ones who suffer the most are children. Our objective is to work for children and with children within the framework of children's rights."

Missair left the country today.
