Today marked the fifth day that 16-year-old Gwen Lizarraga High School student Delvoy Castillo has been at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital on life support.
Yesterday doctors confirmed the worst for family members: that his prognosis is grim. But today his mother told us that his family is still holding on to hope and praying for his recovery.
Margaret Campbell, Delvoy's Mother
"The doctor said that he can't nothing more for him. His condition is really serious right now but we are praying. We pray for my son. He said that he can't do anything but we believe in God and we know God will help him and he will live."
Alfonso Noble,
There is the possibility that at some point doctors will give you a decision to make. Do you think that at some point you will have to make that decision to unplug him from the machine?
Margaret Campbell,
"Well we haven't made that decision yet. We are not making that decision. We still pray. We are praying for him. We see life in him so will continue to pray."
Alfonso Noble,
And how long is it possible for him to remain on the machine as far as you are concerned?
Margaret Campbell,
"Well the doctor hasn't told me how long. He just told me that he can't do anything more for him but this morning he said that he wants me to sign a paper so that he could put a tube in his throat leading to his heart so we will see what that will do for him."
Alfonso Noble,
What did the doctor say you will have to do?
Margaret Campbell,
"When that time come then I will tell. Right now I can't tell that. We will still keep hopeful with our prayers that my son will live."
Alfonso Noble,
Police have announced they'll charge this person. But they are yet to assess the charges. Are you satisfied?
Margaret Campbell,
"Well the only thing with me is I want to know why he left my son in that car. I am not satisfied with him because if he had brought my son by the hospital gate, at least, my son would have been better now. That's all I want to know, why he left my son by Cleopatra White Hospital and not straight to the KHMH."
So far police have still not brought charges against the driver accused of knocking down the young man and leaving him there, 23-year-old Rudolph Serrano Sr., they await a more definite prognosis from doctors before they assess the charges.
