Lost in the political and financial turmoil that the country finds itself in is a story that we first reported on the 10th of this month. That story is of 16-year-old Delvoy Castillo who was knocked down off his bicycle on the night of January 8th., picked up and left abandoned in a vehicle for some time before he finally received attention at the KHMH. When we last reported on him 15 days ago, doctors had just about given up. But his mother never did; she kept vigil at his bedside nourished only by inner strength and prayers. Today it seems that those prayers have paid off and Delvoy's mother Margaret Campbell told us that her son is very much on his way to recovery.

Bernadette Campbell, Delvoy's Mother
"He is trying the best to move around; he gets up; when you call his name, he opens his eyes; he holds our hand; the nurses feed him, and he is off the life support right now. He is doing a little bit better than before but he still in coma and off and on. We wish him the best. I still keep on praying and that's God's work that helped him. God really helped him because the doctor had looked at me and told me he couldn't do anything for my son and now the Good Lord really helped him. I am praying, I am still praying night and day. I sleep at the hospital with my son and I am here everyday. The nurses in the ward take good care of him and I thank them."

Alfonso Noble,
Now he is off the machine as well?

Bernadette Campbell,
"Yes he's not on the life support no more. I pray and God answered my prayer and he is still answering my prayer. Everyday I come to the hospital my son does something different. He underwent surgery for his foot this morning and now he is back in the ward in his bed."

Campbell says the police have not made any contact with her but the man accused of knocking down Delvoy, 23-year-old Rudolph Serrano Sr., still has charges pending as doctors await a definitive outcome.
