Over the past few years the KHMH has been receiving orthopedic assistance from Reverend Tim Tam of the "Word at Work" Presbyterian Church. This week, the Tim Tam man is back giving equipment and some expertise in the practice of orthopedics. That expertise comes from US Dr. Cornel Vangorp who is assessing Belize's ability to perform complete joint replacements. Today Dr. Francis Smith explained that with the help of Reverend Tim Tam, Belize is on par with any hospital in the region.
Dr. Francis Smith,
"There's an intention to put in place total joint replacement procedures in Belize. It's a project we've been working on for years so it's a dream that's coming through. At this time we can boast that Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital and Belize has what's necessary to do any kind of trauma and very similar to what exists in the US and we can boast that Karl Heusner now is up to mark with any trauma hospital in this region."
Vangorp is in the country assisting with orthopedic surgeries and is leaving on Sunday.
