Belize's health authorities have confirmed the first case ever of the deadly dengue hemorrhagic in Belize.
Confirmation came from Mexico this week where tissue samples had been sent earlier this month after there was a suspected case in Cayo. The news isn't all bad though because the Ministry of Health cautions that the patient traveled back and forth between countries in the region where the disease is endemic. More good news is that lab results also confirm that a ten year old Hattieville boy who died in late august did not die from dengue. Results show that boy did not exhibit any signs or symptoms compatible with dengue.
But the news is that there is at least one confirmed case of hemorrhagic dengue in Belize and the Ministry of Health is warning the public to destroy breeding ground for mosquitoes. You're advised to get rid of containers that collect stagnant water and cover vats and drums.
