Today the Tubal Trade and Vocational Institution and Loma Luz Hospital teamed up to donate 50 wheelchairs to the KHMH. Loma Luz got the wheelchairs donated by a religious group called the free wheelchair mission - and 500 of them were sent to Belize. Lydon Bailey of Tubal explained how his school and the Loma Luz teamed up.
Lydon Bailey, Tubal
"Our input is that we set the chairs up through the mechanical class that we have up there because the wheelchairs come disassemble and we have to set them up. So that is how Tubal got in the mix of it."
Jules Vasquez,
How many man hours roughly was used in doing them?
Lydon Bailey,
"Well these guys could set fifty of these chairs up in a day."
Kay Alamina,
"As you know, Tubal is engaged in outreach programs, cater for the under privileged people in our society and these wheel chairs, it is an outreach that the people who can't afford the wheelchair, Tubal is doing that for the students to get involved in something for the community. Not that we are only giving to them but we also engage in what we do very well like giving to the community that we can get something back in return, it is a self enrichment, self development program."
And the real good news in this story is that anyone wanting one of the wheelchairs can get it, while supplies last. You can call Tubal and speak to Lyndon Bailey or Kay Alamina at 225-3252. The wheelchairs are free, but those who can are encouraged to give a donation to the school for setting them up. Remember there are only 500, so if you need, do call.
