Two weeks ago nurse Delysia Goff received the Florence Nightingale Award for a lifetime of service to the Red Cross and tonight we note her passing. Goff died quietly at her home on Baymen avenue sometime yesterday. The 73 year old was discovered this morning by neighbors. She had worked as a nurse for nearly half a century. She retired from the Belize Hospital and joined the Red Cross as a fulltime volunteer nurse in 1988. Back on May 30th when she was honored, she told Keith Swift her years of service to the Red Cross weren't spent in pursuit of any awards. In fact, nursing and the Red Cross were her life.

Delysia Goff, Deceased
[May 30th] "I have Red Cross in my heart. I sleep and when I wake I think of Red Cross and if an emergency should arise, I will find the strength to go out and still serve. So this honor that I am receiving today was not really one of my goals. My goal was to work for the people in Belize. I never anticipated I would have received this level of award from the International Committee of the Red Cross."

A cause of death as not been determined though Goff was a diabetic. Funeral arrangements are pending.
