Government is already $33 million plus another $12 million in the hole for Universal. And while the Prime Minister has told 7NEWS and the National Assembly that government has found a buyer for the hospital and its monster debt, that deal is still not finalized. But in the meantime, Universal still cannot meet its bills. And when they can't pay, you do.
In fact, 7NEWS has learned that just yesterday government paid $300,000 to Universal for what is classified as "pre-payment for service." And this has been going on for some time. In fact, our sources say that since August, government has paid $800,000 for the same thing, "pre-payment for service." _Of course, pre-payment for service is just a convenient heading to conceal the fact that government continues to pay for Universal's operating expenses with taxpayers' money, even though those same taxpayers are already liable for $45 million in Universal-related loans at the Belize Bank.
Despite numerous attempts to contact Financial Secretary Joe Waight for comment or confirmation, he could not be reached.
