One health inspector is dead and another is seriously injured after an accident on the Southern Highway yesterday. It occurred around 6:42 pm between miles 46 and 47. 40 year old Barrington Johnson, an inspector with the Belize Agriculture and Health Authority was driving his Toyota 4 runner along with his co-worker 39 year old Edward Nunez and 34 year old Francis Arzu. They were on their way to Punta Gorda but on the approach to the Swasey Bridge, Johnson lost control of the 4-Runner and it flipped several times – eventually landing 10 feet off the right hand side of the road.
The men were taken to a clinic where Barrington Johnson was pronounced dead on arrival. Nunez is hospitalized in the KHMH and listed in a serious condition. Francis Arzu escaped with minor injuries and was treated and released.
