And it was holds bar after that as the former Prime Minister said that despite calls for his resignation but from the government and within his own party – he won’t resign because the people of Fort George put him there. But more than that, he addressed the issue of the $20 million grant from Venezuela that was diverted to pay the Belize Bank for UHS. He told Prime Minister Barrow to bring it on.
Hon. Said Musa, Former Prime Minister
“I have sat very patiently Mr. Speaker while others have had a field day attacking me, calling me all sorts of vile names, disparaging me, vilification. I have been maliciously vilified and attacked because of grant funds gifted to by the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
Not one cent of the generous gift….[interruption] Mr. Speaker they say they want to hear, not one cent of the generous gift from Venezuela benefited me personally or indeed any official in the PUP. None of us benefited personally. I can stand here in this House and before my God and say that truthfully. But you see this matter Mr. Speaker has been the subject of much political controversy and now legal dispute. One thing I do know….”
[Hon. Dean Barrow Interrupts]
Hon. Dean Barrow, Prime Minister
“Point of order you just said this matter is before the courts. You therefore cannot speak on it.”
Hon. Said Musa,
“This is why I am being very careful about what I say Mr. Speaker without offending the rule. What I can say is throughout this matter I acted in good faith with good intentions and I defy anyone of them to prove otherwise. I know that at the end of the day with all their charges, innuendos and counter charges I committed no criminal wrongdoing and time will prove that.”
