The dispute between the Belize Medical and Dental Union and the KHMH board of directors is very close to a resolution at this hour. The entire press corp is waiting at the Biltmore Hotel right now as we have been told the announcement of a resolution is imminent. The major development has been the decision by KHMH Chairman Dr. Ricardo Fabro to step down. That was the key stumbling block and now that it’s out of the way, this afternoon, there was a genuine expectation that a resolution would be arrived at.

The union executive took the proposals back to their membership at around four and went back into the room around five. We are told that they are hammering out the last elements of a mutual agreement and that is expected to be signed this evening. The meeting has representation from both the Union who has additional representation from Senator Godwin Hulse and the Board with mediation by Labor Commissioner Ivan Williams.

Our team has been there for much of the afternoon and remains there at this hour, and if a breakthrough is announced anytime before the end of the news, we’ll let you know.
