The effort to save kidney patient Jose Cruz’s hands has become desperate. That is because over the weekend, Cruz was forced to amputate two fingers from his right hand. According to Cruz, the pain became unbearable. And that is why tonight the dollar drive to save his remaining fingers has become urgent. Mark Usher from PROTO – People Reaching Out to Others – says that so far they have collected $3,000 – including $2,000 from the Principal’s Association. Unions at BTL, BEL, and workers at Social Security have also chipped in. But Cruz still needs $10,000 since the cost of the surgery is $15,000 in Guatemala. Dollar drop-off bottles are located across the city and Usher says he is still encouraging schools to have rags day in an attempt to raise the necessary funds to help Jose Cruz.
