Last week Monday, Prime Minister Dean Barrow officially inaugurated the Belmopan Cotton Tree Water Expansion project, aimed at providing reliable supply of safe and potable water to residents of that area.
However, only a week since that inauguration, residents of Cotton Tree Village are complaining of 'no wata'. Principal of St. Joseph's RC school, Rebecca Chun says she's had to close school for the second time now since the inauguration of the Water Expansion project. No water means that the students have to trek too far to fetch water for sanitation purposes, and with the sweltering heat the past week, the inconvenience is too much to bear.
BWS spokesperson, Haydon Brown told Seven News that electrical problems have caused the burnout of some of the company's intake pumps, resulting in the disruption of services to the entire Belmopan distribution system. Brown says the company is working diligently to restore services, but confesses that residents hooked up to the Belmopan distribution system will continue to experience intermittent disruption of water supply. Tonight he says from 10 until 2 A.M., residents will experience an interruption of services. Chun told Seven News, the school's water supply was restored at around 1:30 P.M. today, two hours after she dismissed classes for the day.
