Turning now to the latest COVID news, an 81-year-old male is the latest casualty, he becomes the 46th person to die as a result of COVID since March.
He had been hospitalized for two weeks at the Northern Regional Hospital and succumbed yesterday.
And while the Director of Health Services says that senior citizen had a number of pre-existing conditions, a 6-year-old boy has now become the youngest patient to be hospitalised for COVID.
That's right - he's in the COVID unit at the KHMH and the DHS says he has a kidney condition and pneumonia:
Dr. Marvin Manzanero, DHS "It's important that we flag this because we now have the first paediatric case hospitalized now at KHMH COVID-19 unit. It's a 6-year-old male referred from the Northern Regional Hospital who has a specific kidney situation now and he his Xray is documented that he has a pneumonia which is an infection of the lower lung portion. He has been hospitalized as of yesterday evening, currently stable not requiring supplementary oxygen but he is the first paediatric case hospitalized at KHMH COVID-19 unit. Aside from him, there is 6 other patience at KHMH COVID-19 unit, one of those is ventilated, 2 patience at one what we call a high flow of oxygen and the other persons are with what we call supplementary oxygen."
And while we'll continue to follow that case, Dr. Manzanero says the youngest COVID casualty has been a 26-year-old:
Dr. Marvin Manzanero "We have had a 26 year old female that's the youngest person that has died for our context, so we need to be aware of that particular situation, so that person is the youngest, it's a female and if you notice the graphic that we had published earlier in the week, most of the cases of people dying have been in the older age group, so that now we have 16 people out of the total for the 6 deaths that have been recorded, that's one third of cases people are older than 65 and if you bring down the bracket to people older than 55, that means people in the retirement age, that is 34 out of the 46 people that would have died been older than 55 years of age."
