Earlier in the newscast, we told you how the new Minister of Health and Wellness plans to tackle the rising spike in COVID-19 cases.
And while cases are steadily increasing, so are the deaths caused by the virus. Belize has registered 88 deaths so far, with thirteen of them recorded over this weekend - ten of them in a single day - a sad new record.
Eleven of the weekend deaths are males, and two are females. Four deaths are from Corozal, five from Orange Walk, two from Cayo and two from Belize City.
And looking at testing, the positivity rate of tests is also increasing: On Saturday, 119 cases were identified with fifty cases from the Belize District and twenty six from Orange Walk.
On Sunday, 68 cases were identified with the largest number, 21, being from the Stann Creek District.
Up to newstime, there are 2,131 active cases, or 44.6%. Our case fatality rate is at 1.84%.
This number of active cases now makes Belize the the country with the second highest active case number in CARICOM, following only Jamaica which has about 8 times our population.
