And while the BTB is scrapping the health app - is the Ministry of Health and Wellness scrapping free birth control pills and injections?

Well, they aren't, but they're out right now - the result of G.O.B. 's latest resource crunch.

And while it's not exactly common knowledge, one of G.O.B's minor healthcare accomplishments over the last decade has been the provision of free contraceptives at most major public clinics.

But it's yet another program that's been put in jeopardy thanks to COVID-19 and the resulting region-wide rise in prices of these essential items.

It's a shortage that we confirmed with Dr. Natalia Largaespada Beer this afternoon when we asked her what this shortage could mean for the many women and girls who depend on government-subsidized contraception.

There is a similar shortage of subsidized Pap Smear kits, a fact which leaves the valuable test for cancerous lesions only available to those who can access them at The Belize Family life Association or those who can pay to have one done privately.
