And while the San Ignacio Town council is fighting amongst itself - the PUP City Council in Belize City is fighting Covid!

The Mayor of Belize City is at home recovering from Covid, but his council is bracing for what could be another wave of the virus rippling through City Hall.

A councillor told 7News that 3 cases have been identified inside the City Hall - but other sources suggest the possibility of cases at the Traffic Department.

The councillor told us that only 3 employees from different departments have tested positive for COVID-19 over the weekend and today.

Internal contact tracing is being done for other staff who were in close contact with them and those samples have been sent them for testing. Those employees are in isolation until they receive their PCR results.

And late this evening a release from City Hall announces that four members of its staff have tested positive for COVID-19."

The council says that these cases have been detected at differing departments within the organization and at various locations. They end by saying that quote: "The Council wishes to emphasize that it is taking all necessary actions to reduce the spread of this disease, and encourages the public to do the same."

Various Council properties have been sanitized.
