And as more Belizeans rush to take the vaccine the hope is that we'll het to use them all before they expire. But what if we don't.
I asked the Minister today whether GOB is considering either booster shots for the population or paying it forward with regional vaccine donations.
Cherisse Halsall:
"We won't be giving booster shots at this point because the WHO says we're too lucky a country and we can't be giving those out while other third-world countries don't even have one shot. But holding on to all those vaccines, what will we do with them, and will we reach a point where we decide to donate some to countries, maybe like Haiti."
Hon. Michel Chebat, Minister of Health and Wellness
"Well, we follow WHO regulations as best as we can and they are not at this time promoting a booster shot. There is also arguments about equity in vaccinations, you know there are countries across the world who do not have the access and have not been as fortunate as we are to have these vaccinations, our first priority is our people when we've vaccinated the majority of our people then the government will have to make a decision, whether or not we have extra and whether or not we're going to use them as boosters or whether we're going to be donating them to our neighbors."
