Tonight there are two more COVID deaths, and while the death toll continues to mount, with the release of a new infographic, what the public is starting to look at is the vaccination status of the deceased.
Last night the news was that two men from Orange Walk had died from COVID-19, and both were fully vaccinated. In tonight's pair of deaths, one of the two is fully vaccinated.
It's a troubling statistic and a sobering one - because it shows how unstoppable the virus can be.
Today we interviewed KHMH's Acting Director of Medical Services and asked him about the two deaths reported yesterday.
Dr. Adrian Coye, Acting Director Medical Services
"I won't discuss those two cases for the simple reason, we explained before that there will be breakthrough infections with vaccinated patients and of course COVID is still a new entity, we don't know everything about it but we do know that we have some tools that will help us, vaccination is one of the tools but it's not the everything, everything else includes the measures that are public health primarily but everything else is vaccination and I think proper choices and so the two deaths as I said I will not discuss further the details related to them."
Cherisse Halsall:
"The reason we would have asked is that you know, the anti-vaxxers will say, but these people were supposedly protected."

"Well, everyone is entitled to their opinion so again I will leave it at that for the simple reason that, again, we have nothing to prove here in Belize there are multitudes of evidence and layers of it, and of course, hundreds of millions of doses of vaccines have been given and shown to have the impact that it should, nothing is perfect, not science, nor nothing else but definitely, we know that vaccines are having an impact. Vaccines have always been part of our armamentarium in medicine for other things but it's like I'm saying if I drink this medicine and I jump off a building i'll be protected and that's literally well their trying to make that argument well you jump off a building and so the medicine didn't help you, yes if you jump off the building something will happen to you and no amount of medicine or vaccine will stop that."
