And while Dr. Eck's case has shaken the Covid ward at KHMH, they've been getting shock after shock while fighting to save each and every critical care Covid patient.
But they can't save them all and last week tragedy struck when Kim Meighan and her daughter Nathasha Wagner died within days of each other, both struggling to breathe due to severe COVID symptoms.
The news caused an outcry on social media with a stunned public struggling to believe that COVID and fate could be so cruel.
And this afternoon Cherisse Halsall went to see Karl Wagner, the son, and brother of these women. He disregarded any personal health risks to stick by their side until the end and tonight he says he's speaking out because that's what their memory deserve.
COVID deaths, we read them off to you every night telling you how many Belizeans have lost their battle with COVID.
It's the kind of statistic that we've all become numb to.
But behind the numbers are real people, people like Mahogany Street's own Kim Meighan and Nathasha Wagner, a mother and daughter who died within days of each other leaving a family devastated with grief.

Karl Wagner - Son and brother of the deceased
"I'll tell you a little bit about how they lived instead of how they died. They were always the helpers of the family. The ones that will come to the gatherings even if they have to walk there. The babysitters of the family, the grandchildren, and cousins and soh that have kids they are the ones that take care of them. They're beautiful people, mein, beautiful and it just so happens that I was there for them when they needed that extra help, but we miss them a lot and they were great people, you could ask anybody about them, they are helpful, always willing to give without even having. That's the kind of people that it was."
And, what makes this devastating tragedy even worse is that it's the second blow to come in less than a year.
That's because Nathasha Wagner was the mother of Kajoan Roaches. You may remember that Kajoan was gunned down while hanging out near a friend's gate.
Karl Wagner
"Like I said when somebody gets shot or a tragedy happens to somebody you could never tell them I know how you feel, you don't know how I feel. It's a feeling that, no words to describe but it's just crazy and I just wish I could have done more sometimes but that's how it dropped, no."
Cherisse Halsall
"So, they're living, your mom and your sister, they're living in a house together, yes, same house. In your opinion how did COVID enter the house?"
Karl Wagner
"Well my mom doesn't go anywhere, I do everything for my mom. I fill her water buy for her, everything that I need to do, she calls me often to do all that stuff my sister I think is the one that mostly goes out but not often either. You know but maybe somebody had come to the house and, you know you never know because like we've said this thing is an invisible creature that you can't see, so I can't say it's her, I won't blame her but that's how it happened."
Cherisse Halsall
"And once you found out that your family members had COVID, what did you think then, that oh you know they'll pull through."
Karl Wagner
"Yes, in that sense yes everybody wants that to happen but when you hear COVID come other people would want to step back. I jumped in there head first, like I'd do for anyone of my family members, head first with my gloves and my mask taking care of them as much as i can the best way I can, with the help of other family members too, that I appreciate and we're in the situation now that we have to bury them and bury them together, which is kind of hard but I just ask god to continue giving me the strength to get through this and give them the burial that they deserve because like I said they were wonderful people."
Wonderful people who deserve to be celebrated, as Kim Meighan was only recently on her birthday.
Karl Wagner
"My mom' birthday, my other sister that lives in the U.S. was here for a months and we had a lot of fun, mein there are so many things that I can say no, but wonderful people, if you say bad something about them you jut it's okay but I think it leans more to wonderful people than bad people you know."
And if you ask this son and brother how he's doing... well, this was all he could muster on this day:
Karl Wagner
"That's a good one, That's a good one, but one thing I learn right, tough times come and go but tough people remain."
Kim Meighan was the mother of four kids 2 boys and two girls while Nathasha Wagner was the mother of two children, a girl, and a boy.
