And the COVID unit at the KHMH Unit knows all about tough people, case in point Unit Manager Casilda Bowman.
She's been on the frontlines of the war against COVID since it took root in Belize and she's witnessed many, many of its casualties.
Still, it hasn't gotten any easier, and last night when she appeared on UNCUT he told Jules Vasquez how hard it was to fight for and lose the lives of a mother and daughter:
Casilda Bowman - Unit Manager, Covid Patient Under Investigation Unit
"That was hard, I mean it was hard on many different levels because management level we have to think about trauma, we have to think about are traumatizing our patient if we're having relatives in the same room and then at that same point we're both in there we had no other place to move them, of course, one was worse than the next, I think that mom was at a point where she initially had refused ventilation but by the night she had begged us to put her on the machine because she couldn't do it anymore."
Jules Vasquez
"But it was too late?"
Casilda Bowman
"Yes, it was, it was really late but we still attempted, the daughter of course exposed to you know, bear in mind that we are in a room where multiple people are dying and so she refused ventilation so we had to watch her die and that was hard, I mean it's always hard when we have to watch our patients die."
