The words "ten COVID deaths in one day" would scare anyone, regardless if you didn't know any of the victims.
And when we receive the daily infographics, that's what it looks like to us - multiple deaths in 24 hours. But today the Ministry of Health clarified that the daily death count doesn't necessarily correlate to the number of people that actually died in that time frame.
Rather, the deaths get logged in when they receive the actual death certificate, even if the patient had died weeks before.
In the press release, there is a breakdown of the deaths that were reported yesterday. While the infographic says ten, the release explains that one was from November 2nd, one from November 3rd, two from the 8th, one from the 9th, two from the 10th and one each from the 11th, 12th, and 13th. But they didn't give a breakdown for today's four deaths.
But we can tell you that three of them were unvaccinated. Two were from the Belize District, one from Orange Walk and one from Stann Creek. There are 30 patients in the hospital and 18 of them are unvaccinated. 7 of the 12 ICU admissions are also unvaxxed. There were 164 new confirmed cases today and 54 of them were from Cayo.
There are 1,728 active cases and 548 deaths.
