And while it may seem like a lot for the new minister to tackle - especially with the Omicron spike taking active cases to heights never seen before in Belize - he said he's been getting help from the former Minister, Michel Chebat. They both admit that MOH needs to get it together, but Bernard added that the public service needs to pull its weight.

Hon Kevin Bernard, Minister of Health and Wellness
"Just a week actually, it has been going well and I will say this, when the announcement was made and I met with the former minister, both me and him had a wonderful discussion and I think Minister Chebat did a wonderful job, and there may have been challenges, like in every ministry there are challenges and the prime minister thought they needed to have a new change in the ministry and that's the purview of the prime minister and I am humbled by that. Like I said me and the former minister spoke at length, he explained to me many of the challenges that he may have had too and the need for us to fill these position and the ministry needs to get these things together, some of the bureaucracy that happens, the public service can sometimes be very frustrating, I can tell you that. So we also have to look at these things from the government perspective. The public service has to do a little more to make things a little bit more efficient."
