And in other news, last night we told you about 15-year-old Keniya Sutherland who, last month, fell inexplicably ill. The mysterious condition made her immobile, not even having the strength to eat or use the bathroom. She spent most of her days crying and mumbling dangerous or eerie ramblings. Her mother, Kayla Sutherland, explained that there were times when she would be lucid and times when she would become someone else entirely. Sutherland said she had no answers and nowhere else to turn which is why she pleaded to the public for any kind of help.
Well she's gotten that help, tenfold. There was a massive outpouring of support from those who wanted to assist, even from persons living outside the country.
But perhaps the most important contribution came from the Social Security Board, who arranged an appointment with neurologist, Dr John Sosa which they will help pay for and Belize Medical Associates, who offered a free MRI and any required studies.
Keniya went to the hospital this afternoon, and when we checked up on her this evening, she and her mother were still there.
This is the first step in what might be a long journey for the second form student, but her mother and the wider public remain hopeful that she will recover.
