Three unassuming police constables are being hailed as heroes by their department, but were they?

Well, Police Constables Denise Hyde, Arnelle Hyde, and Travis Santos were all recognized by the department today for their role in the emergency delivery of a baby boy born to 19-year-old Kyara Martinez in the wee hours of this morning. The police account says as they got int the door, the baby was crowning and they told the woman to push.

It's a heartwarming tale of civil duty meeting the ultimate act of compassion but maybe it's not all it's chalked up to be. That's according to the baby's grandmother, 7News visited her today and she said that she was the one to deliver her grandson. She says the only role the police played thereafter was giving mom and baby a ride to the hospital.

Notably, this isn't the first delivery miscommunication the cops have had. At the height of the pandemic, baby Prada was supposedly delivered on the porch of Mahogany Street substation but her parents also contested the account. They showed up at our offices two days later to tell us that in fact their daughter had been born on the sidewalk and followed a tradition of sorts of elder siblings all born in transit to somewhere.

The cops say they will be providing training for future emergency birth scenarios.
