This morning, reports that the Ministry of Health was trying to "come up" on COVID tests hit social media. The allegation was that MOH was collecting for COVID tests from people coming into the country through the northern border. These photos are purportedly unofficial receipts - not the standard revenue collector receipts - for tests that were supposedly free.
But the Ministry of Health issued a press release clarifying these claims. According to the statement, only unvaccinated persons who do not submit a negative COVID test are required to take a test before entering the country. They say that a cashier is present from Monday to Friday to collect the fee charge and provide an official stamped government receipt, but that on weekends or holidays, no cashier is present, and a temporary handwritten receipt is provided. Persons are then asked to return on the following workday to be issued a government receipt to replace the temporary receipt.
The release ends by saying, quote, "Regular reconciling and auditing of all test kits and receipts are done by respective regional finance officers countrywide. The ministry encourages the public to request a copy of their government receipt when conducting any government business." End quote.
