And turning back now to the Minister of Education, we asked him about those slow-moving, soon-to-expire COVID vaccines for 5-11-year-olds.

Only 7.6% of the population in that age group have received two doses of the vaccine, and that's due in part to those vaccines have been a victim of poor timing.

They arrived right at the end of the last school year, and will expire shortly after the new school year begins, we asked him about it:

Reporter
"The vaccines for 5-11 year-olds expire in 2 months, so are all hopes lost for school to open and launch a school campaign? Because by then, it'll be too late."

Francis Fonseca, Minister of Education
"No, no, no, I think the Ministry of Health has indicated that they are trying to get additional supply of vaccines. So, I think that's all an ongoing discussion. So, I am confident that come the new school year, we will be in a position to roll out a vaccination program to try to get as many of those young people in that age group vaccinated."

The latest stats concerning the COVID vaccinations for 5-11-year-olds indicate that to date 5,626 children have received two doses.
