And while COVID cases are spiking, so are the number of RSV cases. RSV is a common respiratory virus that usually causes mild, cold-like symptoms, and lately, everybody's getting the flu - especially children.
The Minister says his team has been monitoring it but it flu season, and he encourages those who can to get the flu shot.
Kevin Bernard, Minister of Health
"The team at the ministry, that's the reason why we have gotten new community health workers, we've been doing a lot of field work, we've been encouraging people to take the flu shots, because these are things that we know it is around and there were complaints yes that there was some increase in cases in young children getting sick, having the common cold, it exists around this time, and so the ministry is out doing their field work, doing their monitoring, the surveillance team is also very much engaged in terms of getting those things done so we are on top of that to ensure people, and we encourage people, it's the flu season, what we call the flu season, so get your flu shot if you haven't gotten your flu shot. I know we been into the schools, we've been into the rural communities, the ministry has been out on the ground getting to the communities, especially those who need it most."
