And while those preliminary talks were happening at the Marion Jones Stadium - just up the road at the KHMH, medical professionals were wearing short pants, not the standard medical scrubs.

They told the media why in a noontime press briefing:

Andrew Baird, President, KHMHWU

"Certainly, the shorts signify the shortages of supplies, equipment and human resource in Karl Heusner."

Jules Vasquez
"You all had meetings yesterday, the meetings were encouraging and I think you all agree that both would wait and see a little. What made you all decide to go ahead with this industrial action this week?"

Andrew Baird, President, KHMHWU
"Our membership after yesterday meeting believe that the plan of action should continue through today. There is a sense of demoralization from the membership and staff of Karl Huesner in reference to the working conditions and so forth within the institution and they believe that a clear message need to be sent."

Dr. Alain Gonzalez, Union Executive

"Even though they recognize that we are in our short pants and we are dress like this, we still continue to give our care. Our care would never stop."

Jules Vasquez
"The administration saying that well we have a dress code and you all are not adhering to the dress code."

Andrew Baird, President, KHMHWU
"Yes, Indeed, that was brought to our attention this morning in a meeting and the union made it clear to management that in accordance with section chapter 3.04 laws of Belize employees have a right to partake in union activities and we can only consider any intimidation or so from management or any member of staff working for management trying to intimidate our members from participating as union busting."
