It felt like 2020 all over again when the Belize City Magistrate's Court closed early today because of a COVID scare. The virus is no longer considered a pandemic, and there have not been any restrictions or reported deaths recently. Still, the court's Coney Drive office closed at noon to sanitize the area after a security guard tested positive for the COVID 19.

The closure was a precautionary measure taken by the newly appointed Chief Magistrate, Jayani Wegodapola to ensure the safety of her staff. The security guard appeared to be asymptomatic, but since he has been in constant contact with those who use the court, a number of persons will also need to be tested.

This video is like a scene out of March 2020, when cleaning companies decked out in hazmat suits were sanitizing every office that reported an outbreak.

But the court will only be closed for today, and will be re-opened tomorrow.
