The Fire station Supervisor cautioned the public today about some of the electrical dangers arising from Christmas lights, and other things within the home one should be wary of during the Christmas season.
Here's how you can ensure you'll have a fire free Christmas this season.
Kenneth Mortis, Fire Station Supervisor
"Beautification is something that we look forward to this time of the year. We continue to preach for our safety. We continue to give the signs, that you should look for, when you tend to punch in more than one light set onto an extension cord, it varies, depending on the type of extension cord you plan to use do you want to use the little brown ones that cost about 6.95 Vs the yellow ones that ranges between 14 to 20 something bucks. Once you start plunging in more than one and you put in that light switch and you notice your lights start flickering these are tell tale signs that you want to look forward it is telling you signs that something isn't right. Whenever you use your microwave you see that microwave pulls and then those lights start to flicker. It's because it requires an extra amount of energy to get that microwave going. It is the same thing with these lights whether it is external or internal, you know its basic fire safety and fore safety is basically everybody's business. It's not just mine it's not only yours it's everyone's. You see your neighbor doing it, and you notice it give that extra safety advice and let everybody in the house know what to look forward to don't have Christmas trees directly around your outlets in the event that there is a shortage that will be the first contact the Christmas tree is very flammable, that's where it starts. It goes up and spreads out and it consumes the entire house. Later on throughout the course of the year, we will be finding ourselves doing a lot of cooking and a lot of baking because we want to make sure we have that fresh ham and creole bread on Christmas morning. Nothing is wrong with that. Do your kitchen baking in twos. Fellas for us who are the chefs, some of us are the chefs in the house we want to have that little bourbon by our side we want to have that little tobacco next to us."
"It's not very much that goes together. A bourbon and a sofa is a recipe for disaster. So we will talk more about this as the month comes nearer to the holidays but for now I'll leave two tips. The decorations are out They are there already let's take a step back let's see what we're doing. Let's see what we are spending and we should have a fire free Christmas 2023."
