And going back today at the House, the former attorney general seemed to savor his time testifying before the senate special select - putting in as many political jabs as possible in his two hours before the Committee. Michael Peyrefitte, himself a senator, was asked about the call that his former law partner made to him about the definitive agreement in mid 2020. Here's what he said:

Michael Peyrefitte, UDP Senator

"David Morales telephoned me and said that he has been retained by Portico and that he wants a definitive agreement to be signed that he has. I told him we cannot be talking about this, he knows better than that."

Janelle Chanona
"So is it your testimony then that no member of the former administration can come and say that they were instructed to sign any such document?"

Michael Peyrefitte, UDP Senator
"Instructed by who?"

Janelle Chanona
"Well that is the question."

Michael Peyrefitte, UDP Senator
"Yeah they could say that they were instructed by cabinet but then the cabinet minutes would show whether or not they were, but I am telling you I'm not aware that any cabinet that I sat in instructed that this definitive agreement that we have here, the document that you just showed me, no cabinet that I sat in instructed that this be signed. None. The current prime minister cannot carry the briefcase of the former prime minister. they don't match up at all at all at all."

"The former prime minister if asked a question whether in parliament freedom of information I would say would have answered, because there's nothing to hide. It's public information. If I ask you, if you're prime minister senator and I ask you is there a definitive agreement? what is the harm in you saying yes there's one here it is. If you use public monies, senator, to pay attorneys from taxpayers money and I ask you how much did you pay them it shouldn't be a secret as to how much you paid them and so if you cannot be forthcoming with that information which is simple information then what other important information are you not forthcoming with that may be."
