17 year old Gilbert Tec, one of the Ocean Academy accident victims, is slowly coming out of his coma. His family confirms that last night, he opened his eyes briefly and that he shows other positive signs such as coughing and squeezing his relatives' hands. His mother, Fiona Tec, said that she's feeling a lot more optimistic and she's grateful for the support that she has received.

"I just spoke with Dr Arriaga, Gilly is still not awake as yet however Dr Arriaga said that everything is still good. The only thing is that the response is still not there, when they asked him to open his eyes, he doesn't open his eyes so it's just that part. But he said that everything is still good, X-rays are normal. He did say he had a slight fever, however, they're going to remove the catheter from where they have it. He said he just wants to make sure that that's not the issue and they also want to change the antibiotic he's on to make sure that that's not the issue as well. He said that they want to remove the tube to see how he want to functions on his own but that's going to be done after his surgery tomorrow so maybe a few days after the surgery then they're going to remove the tube to see how his body functions on his own so he is set for surgery tomorrow for his femur for that to be repaired. It's been, as of tomorrow, it's going to be two weeks since the accident so I know that they have to get that done now as to not have muscles growing back, starting to attach back in his leg. I feel very good today, I have a feeling that everything is going to be okay as of today, well, I do know that everything is going to be okay but today for some reason I feel different. My spirits are a bit brighter today so thanks again to every single body who has been donating to him, to everybody who has been praying for him, for all the support that we have been getting for Gilbert and for us the family."

We'll keep following his progress...
