And among other major projects, we also asked the minister for an update on the Belmopan hospital which will double as a teaching hospital. The project is being funded by Saudi Arabia and according to the minister, tenders for construction have gone out already.
Kevin Bernard - Minister of Health & Wellness
"That is in process I can tell you from the information I got just last week the Saudis, the tender has gone out I know that I think it was last week I'm not sure if it's this week or last week that the tenders have gone out for the construction and as you note this is managed through the Saudi fund there were 2 international bidders I am told that was how they call it in that tendering process they call it, where they pick the best 2 so those were the 2 that were put out a contract for, for tendering and then they have to bid for the construction of the hospital so we are on target as well I know it may have taken quite some time but when you deal with these international agencies it does take a process but again that is another major milestone, we want to see pretty soon the ground breaking of that facility something that will also be beneficial to the people of Belize especially in the region where we intend to serve the west and the south as a regional facility and a teaching hospital."
