Tonight, Foreign Minister Eamon Courtenay is in Washington DC representing Belize in bilateral talks with his Guatemalan counterpart, Pedro Brolo Vila.

Yesterday, both foreign ministers held a meeting with Luis Almagro, the Secretary-General of the Organization of American States, at the Washington headquarters. The meeting was held within the context of Confidence Building Measures, signed back in September 2005.

The Secretary-General gave an overview of the work of the OAS Office in the Adjacency Zone. The situations that required verification by the OAS were highlighted.

The Ministers also made presentations on the situations of concern on the ground in areas in the Adjacency Zone. They also offered suggestions for solutions that seek to foster a climate of peace and confidence as contemplated by the Agreement.

The Belize delegation also includes UDP Senator Michael Peyrefitte, representing the Opposition.
