And those teachers and public officers who criticize what they fell is a paltry bonus when they have lost thousands of dollars in annual income and increments, turn to the video footage going around from Saint Kitts and Nevis.
It shows Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Timothy Harris announcing the payment of a double salary for civil servants before the end of this month.
Here's that moment and the reaction from Dean Flowers:
Dean Flowers - President, PSU
"I applaud that administration Jules, I always believe that public officers are selfless people and they are deserving of every reward that they get and it would have been a home run I believe for any government to provide a double salary for public officers not only at this time of Christmas but also at a time that we know that the drivers of this economy are suffering economically."
Prime Minister Harris added that another reason behind his Government's decision to pay this extra-month salary is that it will generate much needed economic activity and help the country's economy get back on track. He expects it to put $35 million plus dollars in circulation.
Saint Kitts and Nevis employs ten thousand public officers.
