And finally, from the PM's remarks to the United Nations, we take you now to his mention of his government's amnesty program.

In August, the Government of Belize launched this initiative to provide permanent residency to irregular migrants who have lived in Belize without proper documentation. They estimate that as many as 40,000 persons could qualify under this program - that's almost 10% of the country's total population.

It's important international news, especially in Central America, where irregular migration has been an ongoing problem.

Here's how the PM casually mentioned it to world leaders at the UN General Assembly last Thursday:

John Briceno - Prime Minister

"My government has instituted an amnesty program to enable those who qualify, up to 40,000 persons, to be regularized. We anticipate that by the end of the amnesty, we would have regularized more migrants per capita than any other country. But forces at the global level are determined to diminish all aspirations for an economic rebound, to underwrite our social and human development and resilience."
