Prime Minister Briceno left the country en route to Brussels in Belgium on July 15th and 18 days later he is still abroad, this time in South Korea on official business.
A press release says that on August 1st The Prime Minister met with President Yoon Suk Yeol, and other officials in Seoul to negotiate a Framework Agreement for Grant Aid between the governments of Belize and Korea. As a result of these negotiations a Korean Economic Development Cooperation Fund program at a 0.1% interest rate with a 30-year payback period was approved. While in South Korea, The Prime Minister also signed a Memorandum of Understanding between Belize and Busan, marking the new sister city relationship between both municipalities. A press release says this new partnership creates opportunities for student exchange at Busan's university which specializes in oceanography.
Also present for the signing was Mayor Bernard Wagner, and his Busan counterpart, Mayor Park Heong-joon. The signing was witnessed by Prime Minister Briceno and Dr. Osmond Martinez, CEO in the Ministry of Economic Development.
