And keeping the view on CARICOM, Fonseca has also been following the recent elections in St Vincent and the Grenadines, where Ralph Gonsalves' United Labor Party, which has been in power for the past 24 years, finally lost in general elections held yesterday. We say "finally" because that's after 5 successive terms in office. Though Gonsalves, who has been the PM all this time, won in his constituency, he will have to vacate his office for the first time in 24 years and give way to Godwin Friday, the leader of the New Democratic Party.

We asked Fonseca for his reaction:

Francis Fonseca, Minister of Foreign Affairs
"I think the the question is, how do you how do you win five elections in the current global environment that we are? So it's amazing that he he was the prime minister of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines for 24 years. So it's almost inevitable, you know, that the tide has turned, but, you know, I had an opportunity on many occasions to meet Prime Minister Gonsalves to talk with him. He was a good friend of Belize. Of course, really a towering figure in Caribbean politics, and very, you know, I think, passionate about progressive issues. So a good man, a good man. And, we wish him well. And we, of course, we look forward to working with the new prime minister elect of Saint Vincent, Prime minister elect Friday. We look forward to working with him and his government, to advance or mutual interest."
