But before that proposed meeting, we spoke with Fonseca about the petition. It's not the first he's heard of it, and he said he's willing to take a closer look:
Courtney Menzies:
"Is it something that when it goes to cabinet, do you believe you'll support it?"
Francis Fonseca, Minister of Foreign Affairs
"I have to see it first. I have to see exactly what it is asking. So I haven't seen it. I was hoping that they would have presented it because they were talking about it, but they never did present it to me. So we'll have to see. And then, you know, based on what they're proposing and what they're asking, then I think we can have a discussion about it."
Courtney Menzies:
"Is it something, though, that that raises your interest that you know that this might be a possibility considering what's happening in the Middle East?"
Francis Fonseca, Minister of Foreign Affairs
"Yeah. I mean, we're always concerned obviously believes has been a very consistent, I think, principled voice in terms of what is happening in Gaza, in Palestine. As you know, we are the only country in the Caribbean, and in fact, in the region in Central America and the Caribbean that has suspended relations with Israel. So Belize has been at the forefront of this issue. We've been very principled, a very strong voice. So we're always prepared to look at any, you know, means of determining how we can continue to speak with a clear voice on this issue."
